A new face, carved from an old one.
When Nero fell, Rome did not waste good marble. His portrait was recut into his successor, Vespasian: a new face worked out of the old one. Two thousand years later the stone still remembers, and so does the print.

From the museum to your wardrobe
How a plate is made
-
I
The original
We start from a masterpiece in a museum’s open-access collection: a public-domain work, photographed by the museum and free for anyone to use.
-
II
The plate
We rebuild it as a 45° halftone, the screen that printed newspapers for a century, tuning every plate by hand until the dots carry the light.
-
III
The print
Your piece is printed to order by our partner workshops in the EU with water-based inks. Nothing is made until you order it, so nothing is wasted.
